From pages to perspective: Part II

So this is part II of the last post where I told the story about my reading, and as I said, this month, I will cover writing, I am here with it.

So, as reading shaped my personality, writing too shaped my perspective and made me more self-aware. I have been writing now for more than 2.5-3 years. My writing habits are just as consistent as my reading. So before going to bed, sorry before going to sleep(since most of the time I lounge on my bed only), I every day do both my reading and writing.

Well, I do not have much to say this time because whatever I said in my last post applies here as well. Nothing new; it's just the benefits of writing are a little different from reading books. The best benefit of writing is self-introspection; you get time to reflect on your thoughts and understand how and why they are coming. The self-introspection is what we all need in our lives, In a manner it is actually a source of self-enlightenment as when Buddha beneath the Mahabodhi tree started his meditation (in Hindi what we call Dhyaansadhna) it was nothing but a self-introspection, self-questioning and resolving those complex question which made him leave his palace in search of enlightenment (gyaanprapti) and same thing we can also do in our room we don't need to go to jungle for it. Writing is also a meditation in some sense if it helps you to introspect which it does.

Just a short time you need to give at the end of the day to self-introspect on what you did in the day, what you should not have done, and what you should have done. How did your day progress, and with that, how your thoughts? Also, you can plan your next day and share your ambitions and aspirations with yourself. Sometimes, we need to tell ourselves what we actually want as our brain processes so many things we tend to forget things and sometimes even forget important things as well.

So Writing not just only helps us in self-introspection but also in managing things better. While writing this also I am self-introspecting and found that I have not given my full attention to my memoir for some time like writing hurriedly as I sometimes get so late for writing so by the time I come to writing I start feeling drowsy and this is happening with my reading too, that's the reason my reading time has declined. Despite all these, I have continued to maintain my consistency in both.

So when I started writing, I started it with many purposes, funny, but I wanted to make a podcast out of it. Well, writing has helped me a lot in becoming more self-aware. Now, I can analyse my thoughts better than ever with self-contradicting and cross-arguing against my thoughts. Debating alone. The purpose of writing is to become aware of yourself and know yourself from the inside; a mirror will take care of the outside. Pages are the mirror that shows your inside reflection.

Writing acts as a medicine to your mental health problems too I see many people these days face mental health problems and not everyone takes therapy or talks to people so that they can vent out their negative thoughts or whatever is building up inside them they may harm themselves so writing might save the harm from happening as when things do not pile up inside human the person feels little lite inside out. Well, another perspective on writing is to consider it as a form of personal history. Anne Frank, for instance, is still alive with her writing, and her writings continue to be read by millions and are even taught in schools. You will go from this earth but maybe your writing will stay alive for the years you cannot imagine.

Why writing is important ? You know what? We humans are NOT SO STILL people. What I mean by it is that we do not sit with our thoughts and listen to our thoughts, our subconscious mind. We have become so addicted to our phones and laptops that we can't go away from them and live without them, and we always continuously do something with them; if someday we get fed up, we still don't sit. Rather, we fall asleep. Have you ever found yourself doing nothing, like literally nothing, just sitting without a phone and with your thoughts listening to your brain? Very, very rarely you do that, right ? Because we don't want to listen to our own thoughts maybe because there is something with which you don't want to tinker. But to heal your mind, you have to understand your thoughts. Without listening to yourself, you can't go much longer. Maybe writing helps you understand your thoughts better, while besides writing, do try doing NOTHING. I have learnt this today only and thought, why not share this with you? While I may often talk with myself, I very rarely do this purely without any movement.

So, I’ve counted many benefits of writing, and now it’s up to you. Do you want to reap the rewards of it or not? So do a small favour to your mental wellness and start writing and creating your own history. It's as easy as reading a book. Just plug-in this habit into your existing habits. You can do it just after reading then you can also write what you have learnt from that day's reading as well. Or when you want. It is not necessary to write daily. You can do it as per your wish, once a week or every alternate day, or the day you get so overwhelmed with something that you should get out of your chest.

Well, I started with "I don't have much to say this time..." but see here I have written a lot more than I expected this is what happens when you start writing maybe in the beginning you find yourself blank but once you start thoughts started flowing out of your pen and you come to know o god I did not realise that I have this much potential to write. So take the pen and paper and start writing whatever comes to your mind. Just vent out all those good, bad, ugly thoughts on that paper and introspect. Who knows, you will also get enlightenment or become the next big writer. On this note, I am taking leave and will see you next month.

Thank you for reading :)
